INSPIRATION | CHALLENGES

 

 Hey, hey scrappers,

Pink lady, Kayla (keepscrappin), here with today's inspiration post. Do you sometimes find yourself in a scrapping rut? Or do all your layouts look the same? If so, look no further than the 2022 Summer Scrap-a-thon challenges going on at Sweet Shoppe Designs right now. There's a new challenge every other day and you can jump in anytime. The prompts are fresh and fun, and give you a starting point to let your creativity flow. I've been having a BLAST scrappin along with the challenges and using my stash of Pink Reptile Designs goodies.

Here's just a sampling of the many layouts I've scrapped during the 2022 Summer Scrap-a-thon.

This layout is for the July 2nd | ______ - a - thon challenge.
I used a BIG photo as the background with the Happy Day templates and combined the Photographic kit and Good Vibes bundle for a layout that WOWS!

This next layout was made for the for the July 18th | Sketch challenge.
The flowers in the Carefree bundle reminded me of the flowers in the challenge sketch, so I ran with it and it turned out "oh so cute", if I do say so myself... hehe! 

This last layout is for the for the July 22nd | Scrap those pocket cards creatively challenge.
It was easy peasy and came together quickly. I just combined a template from the Wildflower template pack with the Like Mother bundle and used the darken blend mode in PSE to blend the mother definition pocket card into the background paper.

INSPIRATION | ARROWS

 

Hello, scrappers! Mirjam here on the blog with an inspirational post. You know I never realized how much I love using arrows on my pages and in my kits until I was showing a bunch of layouts to a friend.

I use them in all kinds of shapes, styles and textures.

On the next few pages I used chips and brads with arrows.

Here's a few examples of where I used doodled arrows on my pages.

Another way to incorporate arrows is using arrow stamps as shown in the layouts below.

And then of course there's arrow shapes.

(as you can see I also combine all the above arrow options)

INSPIRATION | INTERNET AS A RESOURCE

 

Hello, scrappers! Cindy here on the blog with an inspirational post.
Inspiration is everywhere, and I mean it! I don't even remember what I was looking for the other day, but I came across this very interesting design, and I thought
it will be fun to scraplift it.

First, I browsed some of my favorite PRD kits and looked for word arts, little ephemera, paper pieces, and illustrations that looked like stickers or could be turned into stickers.
Then I started building my page from bottom to top, adding a drop shadow on each layer, as well as a stroke when the element wasn't already a sticker or paper.
At the end I couldn't resist adding a some 3D elements, like flowers, ribbons, and foliage as a final touch, because, you know, PRD kits are so awesome!
And here is the final result, with 107 layers!

As Pink Lady Cheryl saw the post in the blog preparation forum she got inspired by Cindy's post and made this layout.

INSPIRATION | PAPER TO DIGI SCRAPLIFT

 

Hello, Cheryl here with an Inspiration Post. I'm going to lift a paper layout - one of my own.  I created this paper layout in 2009 and still have the photograph, so I'll be using it again.  Before I get started, I'm using PSE 2018 and the Pink Reptile Designs "Captivated" Collection.  You can buy the bundle and other purchasing options at Sweet Shoppe Designs.

Here's the paper layout that I'm going to be lifting. I used to love to distress the edges of paper, so I'm going to show you how to "distress" an edge, using Photoshop Elements.  

 (I also distressed the edges of this photo, but I'll show you how to do that in another tutorial.  I'm not going to do that today.)

Here's my finished (digital) layout with a distressed edge.

Let's get started with our distressing.  I'm using Pink Reptile Designs "Captivated".  For my distressed edge paper - PP 01:

Here's the easiest way to find the "cookie cutter tool":  #1 - Click on the Crop Tool, #2 - click on Tool Options, #3 click on Cookie Cutter Tool.

Click on The Cookie Cutter Tool, then on the menu, choose "Crop Shapes"

I'm using #11 in the square shapes - they look like clipping masks. I used #11. Double-click on #11.

Drag your mouse into a square on your paper. This is what it looks like until you release the mouse.

When you release the mouse, your paper looks like this - on a transparent background. With your move tool, pull the edges of the shape to the edges of the transparent layer and click on "commit" or "ok". Now, put whatever drop shadows, etc. that you like - you can even put a slight bevel on the edges. (You can also play with the edges after you get this layer on the paper background
layer.)

Start a new document. Pull your distressed paper onto the background paper. You'll need to work with it a bit. I'm using Captivated 07A as my background.

 

I cut two circles out of two different pieces of Captivated patterned paper- 04 and 07A: Pull them onto your background papers and then add the photo. I added a white stroke around the photo and don't forget to shadow on all.

Now, you're ready to complete your layout. I used a lot of circles on my paper layout, but replicated them with flowers, flairs, and other round elements. I topped the page off with word art.

INSPIRATION | ALPHABETS

 

Hello, CTM Esther here!  So happy to be bringing you another blog this month.  This time, my post isn't a tutorial, it's all about providing some inspiration.  The focus of my inspiration is going to be alphas!
Now we all KNOW, that Mir, always has some  fantastic alphas in her collections  I love that she offers so many color options.  I also admit, that many times, I've very lazy and tend to NOT use them to the fullest of their creative purpose.  My lack of use alphas, actually inspired this blog post.

I started my layout with a background of my choice.  I then used the alphas from Pink Reptile Designs' "Just be Happy" Collection and I created all this word art for my background.

Once I created my initial word art that I wanted to use, I then added a drop shadow and started resizing and creating a word art pattern and landed with this design.

From here, I then added my photo and started really adding all the elements that I wanted to complete the look.  (I used the papers & elements from the "Just Be Happy" Collection.

Hopefully this inspires you to use the alphas for more than just word art to a page.  Use it to create messy alpha backgrounds or to create a word art background like I have done here.  Some other ideas: use them to fill in objects, add initials to a cluster.

INSPIRATION | USING CARDS ON A LAYOUT

 

Hi everyone, I have some inspiration for you.  One of PRD's recently released collections "Smitten" is one of my favorites.  It's packed with an alpha, cards, elements, papers and templates. 

I decided to use the cute cards this time around to show you how you can use those on a layout.  Don't forget to look around the new store now at Sweet Shoppe Designs for more awesome stuff.
