PRETTY PAGES FROM THE PINK REPTILE GALLERY | by CYNTHIA

Hello & Merry Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa, whatever you are celebrating in your corner of the world!!!! I am delighted to come share with you some of the so many amazing, inspiring pages created with Mirjam's creations….it's no secret she is so very dear to my heart, and it reflects in her creations how much joy she gives to all of us, so I have to say, not a very easy job to nobly choose this very few…. every page in the Pink Reptile gallery is such a treasure!!!!!!

First one. I love this girl…she is a real active new member to The Lilypad family, and one I have been enjoying page after page…she is stylish and elegant but isn't afraid to fill a page….I LOVE this middle of the way page…. I learn to love tea after 20+ years in England and this page reflects the tea feeling so well, love the vertical composition and the mixing of textures, plus the kit she used is one of my favourite of Mirjam's collabs….gorgeous, perfection in clean lines with an artsy touch with the background paint Awesome.

Second one. Oh this wasn't an easy pick, I tell you (in general). First of all, the entries for the Blog Challenge this month are superb each & every one…. and then because also Helene has a few other pages so I keep switching tabs to try decide…! Helene is another gifted lady, and in this page everything shines. The amazing color choices, perfection in shadowing and delicate embellishment giving me things to discover without overwhelming the page….and that treasure of a family photo. Love how the mixture of 2 products goes un-noticed, as it all seems in perfect harmony, like it all came from the same pack…. . More awesomeness!

Third one. And here is when we see the amazing creativity the challenges bring to us…another creative joy from Agnes, whom, I think, has the same passion I have about Mirjam's creations and we want to combine it all in a page and make the words come alive….as she achieves once again in this page. Love the mixture of papers, the way she extended the template, there is so much fun visually in this page…. love every little bit and the more I look, the more I find, plus such a beautiful, full of joy journaling with so much accomplished…I can almost hear her laughter and delight. Absolute awesomeness again!!!!

HYBRID | CHRISTMAS WREATH

For this December month, the month of Christmas, I thought it would be fun to make a hybrid wreath that I could hang from our living room door so it could add to the homely feel of Christmas an family gatherings. So that is the project I want to show you.

For me this wreath has a special touch because it was created by four hands! My own two did all the paper cutting and sticking everything together but it was Mirjam's hands that made the crochet elements. She sent them to me and I think they add a great sense of depth and extra dimension.

The first thing I did was print a bunch of elements from Counting the days and Countdown to Christmas. Then I got some green cardstock papers and a white one from my stash.

In the next step I traced a big and a small plate so I have two circles that create my wreath and then cut it.

Then I covered my wreath with one of the green papers and from another green paper I cut several leave patterns. As usual I used my cuttlebug for the leaves.

I cut leaves in two differents colors to add contrast and depth. As you can see I put two clusters of leaves on my wreath.

Then I decorated each cluster by adding printed elements from Pink Reptile Designs'element packs.

I didn't want to leave the center of my wreath bare so I livened it up with a gingerbread man element that is hanging from a piece of nylon string.

And to finish it all up, I added the wonderful crochet elements that Mirjam sent me!
They were perfect to complete and finish my project !

Now, I can't wait for christmas to come!!

As always I hope you enjoyed my post and if I inspired you in any way, shape or form then by all means make a photo of your project and upload it to your gallery so you can leave a link in the comment section below! I'd love to see what you made!

Wishing you and your family Happy Holidays!

SAN'S FAV FONT COMBO's

When I scrap I always do my journaling last and I look at which font[s] the designer used for the wordart, journal cards or other snippets and I try to match them. To find a font or at least a similar one I often use this site: http://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/. For my journaling I use the same font but in a lighter weight.

You can also combine fonts, but how do you match two different fonts and why don’t all fonts go well together? There are some “rules” for combining fonts that you might want to keep in mind when you want to use more fonts on a page or invitation.

Pairing Do’s
  • Combine fonts from a different  sans-serif – serif or script family.
  • Keep it simple and combine fonts from the same family but in different weight variations.
  • Make a contrast for example one with a heavier weight line so it stand out and the other font is a thinner one.
Pairing Dont's
  • Don’t combine fonts that are too similair.
  • Don’t use too many fonts, it takes two to tango and that’s just like combining fonts!
  • Don’t mix fonts with moods, for example these two X-mas fonts, it’s way too busy and there isn’t any one font that stands out more than the other.
Here's a few of my favorite font combo’s that you can download for free:
Keep Calm & Mathilde, Centeria Script & Champage & Limousines, Southern Aire & Fine Shadows, Coffee Shoppe Espresso & Two is better than one, Park Lane & Oranienbaum

Try, practice and just remember that contrast is key and opposites attract for pairing fonts together!
